Hello all!

Who are you? What do you sell? What do you collect? What is your favorite color? And other existential questions. :)

Tell us all here!

I'll go first: I'm Julia. I've been eBaying since 1999 or so, when my first sale of a box of Adobe Photoshop software got me hooked. Since then I've completed many many transactions and met many wonderful people.

I love Italian food, watching standup comedy, show tunes, and I still buy the occasional gumball from a gumball machine.

I've also written a couple books about eBay, and many ebooks, as you probably saw if you nosed around this web site.

I want to know more about you!

Hello all. I'm JJJJJR more commonly
referred to as Capt. John. That's
because I'm a Ship's Captain by
trade. Currently I own and run [Charter] a 32 foot Sportfisher
seasonally between May and November/December, weather permitting, here in Southern New Jersey. During the off season I buy/sell at Yard Sales, Auctions, and Online. Now that I've introduced myself, allow me to wish
that this site take off and continously grow and be as helpful to all as it can be. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Hi gang! This is my first post, so I suppose I might as well rant right off the bat!

I'm closing my eBay store on Monday, Mar 26 after six relatively profitable months.

The "treasures" I have accumulated are almost items that I "inherited" from my deceased relatives. Somehow, it's always my wife and I that end up cleaning out the house after grandma/Dad/brother/aunt/you-name-it ends up in the hospital or hospice ot the funeral home. We have a huge basement, and we're sentimental about old things, especially family things, so we tend to keep a lot of things that, right or wrong, other family members would put in dumpster. Those "dumpster" items have done every well for us on eBay!

So I decided to start an eBay store with the user name "Mommas Basement." We live in the northen top of the lower part of Michigan, so there are not a lot of people, or yardsales, to take advantage of. So the eBay store has been great.

But I haven't been spending the time it takes to list enough items to make the store profitable month after month. And the placement of store items at the bottom of the eBay search page really hurts us. I've used regular auction listing as "banner ads" for the store, and that works well, but then you have to pay for a listing just to get people to visit the store.

So I'm thinking I may do better taking my stuff to a local antique mall to sell on consignment. Consignment is nice because there are no fees until your item sells (...kind of like Amazon). So although I'm still a Yardsaler by heart, I won't be an eBayer for too much longer. At least, not with "yardsale" type goodies.

Has anyone tried consignment selling at a bricks-and-mortar store?

Please visit my eBay store (...while you still can!) to see what you think!

Hi everyone,

Gary here. I just found the forum through Julia's Yardsalers Newsletter so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm in North Dakota and have been yard saling (usually called garage sales in this neck of the woods) for more than twenty-five years. I started going to them to buy inventory to sell at small flea markets in the area, and have been hooked ever since. I still find in nearly impossible to drive by one without stopping.

The yard sale season in this area is pretty much limited to late April/early May through September, so I'm currently pretty much in withdrawal.

I've been making my living on eBay since shortly after it got started, selling antiques and collectibles.

Outside of eBay I'm a crazed college hockey fan; a frustrated fisherman; an even more frustrated golfer; and enjoy restoring and driving vintage sports cars. I also collect aspirin tins and have more than 700 different ones in my collection.

Hey Rick (and a shout out to Gary...good to see you again!),

Sorry to hear about your eBay store. I hear you about the Store items being hard to find. A good idea, I think, to take a break from it...then you can always come back to it..possibly refreshed?

Let us know how the consignment selling works for you. From the articles I've seen about eBay consignment stores, they haven't been working very well either. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) eBay says again this year at eBay live about the visibility of Store items. Last year at eBay Live it seemed to be a big issue.

Hello all!

I'm Nate, a fellow yard saler in Boise, ID. I've been hitting the sales on and off for a little over 10 years.

When I was younger my friends and I found a big local map that we could write on with dry erase markers. We would plot all the local sales on it and plan our route for Saturday morning. I don't have the map anymore, but I've recently started a website at http://gsalr.com/ to do the same thing, without the mess of markers Razz Please check it out when you get a chance, and any feedback is welcome.

Anyway, thanks for the forum, Julia! I look forward to participating in the community and hearing tips from other salers.

Nate

I tend to spend the most time looking through electronics like old computers, console games, cameras, etc. I'm also an avid bicyclist which makes me a sucker for bikes and bike parts. I haven't tried reselling much yet, but maybe soon Smile

Very Happy My name is Natalie, I live in Caldwell Idaho.

I like to find toys, books and clothes for my kids at yard sales. I also like to find wierd stuff like large knight statues, chinese umbrellas whathaveyou.

I built a new site called www.GarageSaleNation.com. Last weekend it has 28,000 garage sales listed and mapped by zip code.

Let me know what you think of it.

I like weekendtreasures, and gsalr's setups. I used to do the dots like Nate.
