Hello all!
Who are you? What do you sell? What do you collect? What is your favorite color? And other existential questions.
Tell us all here!
I'll go first: I'm Julia. I've been eBaying since 1999 or so, when my first sale of a box of Adobe Photoshop software got me hooked. Since then I've completed many many transactions and met many wonderful people.
I love Italian food, watching standup comedy, show tunes, and I still buy the occasional gumball from a gumball machine.
I've also written a couple books about eBay, and many ebooks, as you probably saw if you nosed around this web site.
I want to know more about you!

Hi! First of all I want to congratulate Julia on the launch of this new site and I think its great what she has done.
A little bit about me. My name is Mike Judkins and I live in Santa Cruz, CA where there are tons of yard sales every weekend (its raining this weekend, so not so much today) as well as a flea market, so its really a great place to be if garage sales are your thing.
I got into yard saling after hearing that one of my friends started making good money reselling stuff he found on craigslist and yard sales on ebay. Since I am a website developer and designer by trade, my wife and I decided to make a website that would feed our addiction and help other people as well, so we launched weekendtreasure.com late last year to help people find sales near them.
I'm a big fan of Julia's newsletter and intend to start reading some of her books too. Im glad she's started this site and look forward to meeting more people here and working together when possible with Julia. _________________ Thousands of Garage and Yard Sales posted weekly at http://www.weekendtreasure.com Easily find a sale near you! |

Welcome, Mike and Weekend Treasure!
Wow..my first bboard post! Other than my own that is! ;)
So glad to see you here. You live in Santa Cruz? Awesome..what a great place for sales! First, the weather's mild year-round; second, you probably run across all kinds of Silicon Valley treasures...an old Mac here, an early IBM -compatible there...maybe an Amiga to spice things up...too cool!
When you have time, do tell us all about the cool things you must have found. What have some of your biggest sales been?
I'll have to check out your web site, too, and let's def. exchange links!
Hope to see you around here soon.
Happy yard-sale-ing!

|

Hey Julia, thanks for the welcome
We do run into some good stuff in this area. Although we have only just begun, a few highlights include:
An 8 foot tall outdoor heat lamp and propane tank for $20 and they even delivered it! This was more of a personal buy rather than for resell - we actually were about to buy one for $300 at the local Orchard Supply. We cleaned it up and its been great to have during the cold weather and at night when we want to have guests over (our house is very small here but we have a large outdoor area for entertaining so its really been great)
A board game that we bought for $1 called "Cashflow for Kids" that we ended up selling on eBay for $54 dollars. Its not even an old game, but I guess highly collectible. Thats probably been the best thing so far, but I know there will be more things like that and it just takes time to recognize them. We had no idea before we bought the game that it was worth that much (I thought maybe we could get 5 or 10 dollars at best)
Also alot of gardening tools that we would have bought at full price new, we've saved a bundle on at yard sales. And picture frames (we'll never pay retail for a frame again as you can find very nice ones at yard sales all the time)

Hello! FYI, Cash Flow for kids was created by a Real Estate Investment Guru and any Real Estate Investment stuff sells well on Ebay. That was a lucky find at that price! Folks that are interested in Real Estate investing ususally love to read and learn and they just can't read or learn enough! I just sold a REI course for $202.00 and I had well over 25 watchers.

Hello,
My name is Sandra and I'm an Ebayer that loves to buy at Garage Sales and sell on Ebay for a profit. I found Julia through Lynn Dralle, who I am a big fan of. I live in Texas and my area LOVES to have garage sales and there are many good thrift stores.
I also have a big inventory of mosaic tile (hundreds of pounds) that I am trying to liquidate for a friend, but I have a real problem trying to find the time to list it.
I need a better work schedule! I have tons of stuff to sell, and even more opportunities to buy but I'm either hot or cold on working. I hope to get inspiration from all you hard working Ebayers out there.
Take Care,
Sandra |

Hi Sandra and Ann! Great to meet you.
Mosaic tiles...wow that's cool...another place to sell home improvement type stuff is craigslist, esp. if it's heavy. As tile does tend to be.
Ann....bells? Wow..interesting...tell us more!

Hello everyone,
This is a great site and I hope to get LOTS of ideas from everyone here! Yard sales are a little slow this time of year, I live in Northern Indiana and the weather is too cold for most. I have seen a few indoor sales, but not many. I LOVE to find bargains to sell on eBay! I started selling in 2000 and have been addicted since. I go in spurts on what I sell and when I have time to list. I get stuff at auctions too, have found some great deals! People dont understand why I buy some of the stuff I get! HEHEHEHE...my little secret!
I collect antique beaded and mesh purses. Also LOVE to buy new ones too!! And butterflies, that is how I got my name.
I am always looking for new ideas on what to sell. I have been trying to find a "niche", but it seems my niche is everything! lol I have had a hard time narrowing it down, so I dont! I would like to be able to sell more, and make more (who doesnt?) My biggest problem right now is time. My internet connection is dial-up and sloooooow. And my husband just had a hip replacement, so that has slowed me up some. Any ideas I get here will be great, as I seem to be stuck....
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Happy Yard Saleing! _________________ dee |

| Ouch, I bet your husband will be glad to get that hip replacement behind him, my mother had a double hip replacement. Have you tried Turbo Lister? It might speed you up becuase you can do your listings off line and then just upload them onto Ebay. It has it's share of glitches though too. |

Hey Dee! Welcome! "Deeflutterby"..I love that nickname!
You remind me a lot of me..hehe..I also love beaded purses and purses are also a weakness for me, tho i myself mainly use one black Coach bag that is actually probably a bit small for all the stuff I'm always trying to cram into it.
I have several little evening bags, some I inherited from my grandma, who was a "foreign service wife" and hosted lots of parties , so had many nice evening-y clothes.
I also find them at yard and estate sales too. Actually I am about to list a big lot of regular purses and will be writing about that in a Yard Salers newsletter soon!
Sorry to hear about your husband..I know several folks who had hip replacements, and once the recovery was over, they were better than ever!
That must be hard having a dial-up connection..I know broadband access can be expensive, but you may want to consider DSL or a cable modem access...for people like us who list on eBay, I feel like it's almost essential! I think if you report eBay income, you could deduct the cost of the access as a business expense, but I'll have to check into that to be sure.

The newsletter article sounds interesting. Let me know how the sales go. I have some retro purses I should list... forgot about them. I wont sell any of my beaded/mesh purses!! Love em toooo much. hehe.
Cant get cable, or DSL only options are satelite hook up or wireless card.. someday!!! sigh.... Need to make more selling on eBay to pay for it, but it takes soooooo long to list....and my time is limited...soooooo...dont get listed what I want, and dont make any cash.....lol....get my drift???
The hip surgery was just part of it. When they put replacement part in they cracked his femur!! So now he cant put any weight on that foot. And he also got a urinary tract infection!! Which is causing most of his problems. But it seems to be getting better.
The weather is starting to warm here, so maybe there will be some garage sales popping up?!?! _________________ dee |

Hi, I'm Chuck in Ohio and I yard sale, thrift shop and go to auctions. I like to collect postcards, and also sell postcards and old paper. I'm just getting started on this, and doing it part time, but it sure would be fun and it took off and I could spend all my time playing with old stuff.
What's looking trendy for spring? What memoribilia is going to be sought after in the next 6 months? And in what part of the country? I see a lot of Longaberger Items here locally. Any ideas?
Thanks for the forum Julia. And good luck everyone! _________________ chuck the happy_glazier |

..it out!
Welcome. Chuck! Yes, Longaberger is hot...amazing what that stuff sells for.
You asked about what was hot for Spring and one thing that "sprang" to mind was the article I saw in USA today about how some of the new George Washington dollar coins had a striking error..they were supposed to have ridges on the edges but some don't...those ones are worth up to about $300 each right now it said.
where do you find them? I don't know but I used to get the Sacagawea ones by the passel (sp?) as change out of good ol' US Post office stamp machines.
And you thought u'd hate going to the Post Office! ;) Now they just have to make the fool things work in vending machines. ;)
Good luck all..more soon!

Hi Chuck,
Great question! I know different parts of the country have different trends. I am also from the midwest and would like to know what is trendy/hot in other parts of the country. Maybe that would be a good idea for another subject. Would be a great help when garage saling for ebay to know what others like or want.
The Longenberger baskets are always popular around here. I a have LOT from 1985-86, with the old stain, which I like better. I also have one I bought at a yard sale in Dresden (home of Longenberger) in 1986 that was made my J.W. himself!!! Some day I plan on selling it. Any ideas on what it is worth?
I will keep an eye out for any trends around here.... _________________ dee |
